Paul Allain and Jen Harvie note that performance art which takes place over a long period of time is also endurance performance [The Routledge Companion to Theatre and Performance (New York: Routledge, 2014) 221)]. Marina Abromovic’s The Artist Is Present, which required Abromovic to sit silently for seventy-five hours while making constant eye contact with gallery attendees, is an example of endurance performance.
